Weekly Reading Log --
Students should read and record for a minimum of 20 minutes each day on their reading log. Students reading at or above level J should be completing reading log with the date, title, pages read, and amount read each night. This is an important tool for students to use in order to create a record of their reading lives that they can use to set goals to work towards achieving.
Students reading below level J should be recording the date, title, and which activity they completed. At this level, we ask students to read and reread this book several times. Students should read it to themselves the first time, focusing on understanding what the book is about. The second time they read it, they should read it aloud and try to read the book with expression and fluency. The third time they read it aloud, they should be focusing on remembering the details and sequence of events and then retell the story to a reading partner or parent for homework.
